You have almost certainly heard and read about the devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River here in the Texas Hill Country. Heart O’ the Hills was right in the path of the flood.

 

We are fortunate that the camp was between sessions when the flooding occurred, so there were no campers in residence. However, our Director and the camp’s longtime co-owner, Jane Ragsdale, lost her life. We at the camp are stunned and deeply saddened by Jane’s death. She embodied the spirit of Heart O’ the Hills and was exactly the type of strong, joyful woman that the camp aimed to develop with the girls entrusted to us each summer.

 

The extent of damage to camp facilities is still being determined, but it is serious. Access to the site is difficult, and authorities are primarily focused on locating the missing and preventing further loss of life and property.

 

We will not be able to open for our next session, which was scheduled to start on Sunday, July 6, and, for now, we are unable to fulfill orders placed with our store.
