Activities

At The Heart, every day is filled with opportunities for adventure, creativity, and growth. With a wide variety of activities to choose from—including swimming, field sports, horseback riding, creative arts, and more—campers can explore their interests, discover new passions, and build skills that last a lifetime.

Our approach emphasizes individual growth and achievement. Small group instruction ensures personalized guidance, while a supportive environment encourages campers to try new things without fear of failure. With each step, they gain confidence and celebrate their progress.

Every camper, regardless of age or experience, is given the tools to succeed. Activities are tailored to meet individual skill levels, providing opportunities to learn and improve year after year. With encouragement from peers and counselors, campers discover that with determination and practice, they can accomplish amazing things.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

Evening Activities

No two evenings are exactly the same. Sometimes campers spend the evening quietly in their cabins, getting to know each other. Other times they may play an outdoor game that pits one team against another. And some nights they may watch a movie. But there's always something happening.

Field Days

During The Heart's Field Days, teams of campers compete against each other in all kinds of fun outdoor events -- from obstacle courses to dashes to balloon stomping.

Seminar Day

This is a day of unexpected fun and activities, as counselors give the girls a chance to try activities from all over the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions that come up frequently among campers and parents, especially among first-timers.

What activities are campers required to take?

Almost all of the HOH activities are optional, so each camper can pick and choose the ones that most appeal to her. There are just a handful of exceptions: All campers participate in swimming and field sports. Seniors also take Life Skills with Jane.

How do electives work?

Electives are chosen based on a camper’s interests and availability. Activities are scheduled strategically, and campers are encouraged to complete the Activity Preference Form before camp to ensure they get their preferred classes.

How do I schedule my classes?

Activities are pre-assigned for our youngest campers - Minions and Sophomores - based on their preferences. Our older campers (Juniors, Seniors and Teens) select their activities once they are at camp.

Are there special riding classes available?

Advanced classes such as English jumping and polocrosse are offered, with participation based on skill demonstration and tryouts.

Are there any additional charges for activities at Heart O' the Hills?

No, there are no additional charges for any activities at Heart O' the Hills. All activities included in our camp programs are covered by the standard camp fee. This means that campers can enjoy a wide range of activities—from adventure sports and performing arts to waterfront fun and creative arts—without any extra costs. We believe in providing a comprehensive and enriching camp experience without the burden of additional expenses.
