Healthy atmosphere—We learned at conference that the average American youth spends 6 to 8 hours a day in front of a screen, whether the screen is a computer, television, or cell phone. By leaving electronics unplugged, camp allows girls to move more. We eat healthy meals, snack little, walk a lot, run, laugh and play.

Engage all senses—We do our best learning not when we sit and listen, but when all the senses are engaged. At camp we don’t just listen, we DO. That stiumulus rich environment is the best for soaking it all up!

Authentic role models—Not movie stars or sports figures, but real live people to look up to and emmulate! Camp provides people older than you who know you and love you and guide you to be your best.

Relationships—Again, when the cell phone is set down, we better improve our ability to relate to others, looking into their faces, reading the small gestures that are cues to helping us get along. Experiencing things together is what makes friendships grow and thrive!

Trying new things in a safe and encouraging atmosphere is exhilirating, and when we meet with success, we develop self-confidence for facing the next new thing. Even when we fail, if the atmosphere is right, we learn resilience.

Self-reliance—is the missing ingredient that causes many to drop out of college. People need to practice fending for themselves when the stakes aren’t that high. Just the simple things like working through a disagreement with a roommate or figuring out what to do when you forget to bring your towel help enhance that important skill.
