Become a Counselor

There are many aspects to the job of being a Heart counselor – it requires patience; a sense of humor; an attitude of service, sharing, and sacrifice; a creative energy; dedication; physical endurance; and a spirit of fun!  If you think you’ve got what it takes, keep reading…

What we're looking for:
Our counselors must be clean-cut, "All-American" types. We want healthy, hearty young women whom youngsters will want to emulate; counselors who feel equally comfortable with girls in an active situation, or in a quiet discussion or devotional.  We want counselors who set a good example in every way and who believe in working with a team toward a common goal.

A counselor’s daily life:
Counselors live with campers in “tepees” which are air-conditioned cabins and are responsible for all aspects of their campers’ well being. In addition, they teach activities during the day and assist in evening programming through participation.

Our campers are girls, age 6-16.  Each girl is asked to take horseback riding (English or western), Red Cross swimming, and field sports.  They then pick activities of their own interest, taught by our talented counselors, which include, but are not limited to:
-Canoeing, competitive swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, fishing
-Team sports: volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, lacrosse, field/floor hockey, dodgeball
   - Individual sports: tennis, riflery, archery, fencing, and strengthening/agility
-Pioneering, campcraft, outdoor cooking, rappelling, rock climbing, climbing wall, nature
-Arts & crafts: ceramics, needlework, crocheting, jewelry, leather, drawing & painting
-Dance: jazz, modern, ballet, tap, line dancing, hip hop
   - Gymnastics, cheerleading, drill team, flag twirling, kick boxing
   -Drama, choir, and instrumental music
   - Yearbook, journalism, photography
-Bible study, sewing, cooking, and so many more!

Each prospective counselor should submit the following:

   -application form
-3 reference forms from adult, non-family members who know you well, returned directly to us
   -voluntary disclosure form

Once we receive your completed application materials, we will arrange an interview with you (which may be conducted over the phone, only if you are unable to meet with us in person).  Feel free to contact us at any time to check on the status of your application.

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible to apply as a counselor you must have had at least one year of college or be at least 21 years of age.  Also, you must be able to attend orientation beginning in late May. This two-week training period may include certification courses.
