The Heart strives to hire counselors who are fun, knowledgeable, safe, and good lifetime role models. Careful reference and background checks are done. Staff is hired from around the world. The Heart has a staff-to-camper ratio of fewer than five campers to staff member in the tepee (cabin).    Counselors participate in a full two-week pre-camp training that combines skills training with safety procedures, teaching and communication skills, Heart traditions and philosophy, and team building.    Camp leadership and owners engage in professional growth and development training each year.    The Heart is family owned and operated, insuring the continuing tradition of Ragsdale involvement in every phase of camp.
