Foundation

The Heart combines a traditional camping program, experienced and knowledgeable counselors in unique and outstanding facilities.

Limited camper enrollment enables everyone to be on a first-name basis, increasing the sense of a warm, caring family atmosphere.

Staff members are hired for their knowledge and skill in specific areas, but they bring so much more to The Heart experience. We strive for Heart counselors with character; who are warm, understanding, responsible and willing to give of themselves. Their enthusiasm and friendliness help even the shyest of campers feel at home.

References are carefully checked. Staff applications come from former campers, college students and teachers around the world.

"Is this counselor an example I'd want my child (or grandchild) following?" is the criteria for hiring.

Staff to camper ratio exceeds national standards. Counselors have completed at least one year of college; many have advanced degrees. The staff undergoes extensive pre-camp orientation and certification.

Parent-camp communications are frequent. Approximately each 10 days a report, including a newsletter from the director and menus, is mailed. Parents are welcome to call the director at any time for a personal update or to discuss their camper.

The director and her family live on camp (Mesa Manor) year-round and are involved in every aspect of camp life and operation.
